Episode 4: Dan Lorang’s Quiet but Noticeable Success

In this episode of Chasing PB Podcast, I interview Dan Lorang. Dan is a coach to Bora Hansgrohe’s cycling team that features Peter Sagan, and at the same time he also coaches some names in Ironman triathlon that you may be or will be very familiar with for years to come, including Sarah True, Anne Haug, Nick Kastelein, David McNamee and Jan Frodeno. We talked about Dan’s career in this episode, including his time at the Cervelo Test Team, his tenure as head of the German triathlon program for Rio, and in the present how he manages his two jobs and interacts with his athletes. Dan gives great insight into what it’s like to handle such high performing athletes, and where he sees himself in the equation of their careers. It’s clear that Dan isn’t just an exceptional sports scientist, but also incredibly humble and a great communicator which takes him to the next level.
